Shambhalla part 21

KALCHAKRA AND SHAMBHALLA

The Kalachakra tradition revolves around the concept of time (kaala) and cycles (chakra): from the cycles of the planets, to the cycles of human breathing, it teaches the practice of working with the most subtle energies within one's body on the path to enlightenment.

The Kalachakra deity represents a buddhahood and thus omniscience. Since Kalachakra is time and everything is under the influence of time, Kalachakra knows all. Kalachakri, his spiritual consort and complement, is aware of everything that is timeless, not time-bound or out of the realm of tim

The term "wheel" evoked herewith is a principal polyvalent sign, teaching tool, organising metaphor and iconographic device within Indian religions. Some "wheel" cognates are the aṣṭamaṅgala symbol of the dharmachakra, Vishnu's Sudarshana Chakra and the theory of saṃsara.

Kalachakra refers to many different traditions: for example, it is related to Hindu Shaiva, Samkhya, Vaishnava, Vedic, Upanishadic and Puranic traditions and also to Jainism. The Kalachakra mandala includes deities which are equally accepted by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists.

The first notable king of Shambhala, King Suchandra ( "Chandrabhadra), requested teaching from the Buddha. In response to this request, the Buddha gave the first Kalachakra root tantra. By practicing the Kalachakra the whole of Shambhala became an enlightened society. Suchandra was followed by an additional six Dharmarajas (Truth Kings), with his eighth successor, Manjushri Yashas (Sanskrit name "Manjushrikirti"), the first of the 25 Kalki Kings.

"Manjushri Yashas" is said to have lived in the second century BCE. He formatted the Kalachakra teachings into a condensed and simplified structure termed the "Sri Kalachakra" or "Laghutantra." He also taught a group of bramhan priests the knowledge of Shambhala and gave them the Kalachakra initiation, they all became enlightened.
